Ellen Greenberg (director and founder) attended her first yoga class in 1996. She opened Practice Yoga Studio in 2002. She has practiced various styles of yoga but since 2001, her practice has been influenced most profoundly by senior Iyengar teachers Kofi Busia and Joan White. Ellen has studied with many other teachers over the years including Manouso Manos, Patricia Walden and Gabrielle Giubilaro to name a few.
She is spending December of 2011 at the Ramamani Memorial Iyengar Yoga Institute of Pune, India.
Galit Carthy came across a book called "Yoga, the Iyengar Way" in 1999 which inspired her curiosity and marked the beginning of her yoga practice and study. In the years since, she has explored several styles of yoga and has been teaching since 2002. Galit is now pursuing a certification in the Iyengar method and is mentored by her teacher Joan White. In addition to being grateful for what she has learned from her students, Galit's most influential teachers are Ellen Greenberg and Kofi Busia. She has also been privileged to study with Manouso Manos and Dean Lerner.
Rebecca Hooper began practicing yoga in 1991, with the help of BKS Iyengar's book, Light on Yoga . She was certified to teach yoga in 2005 and since then has been a serious student of yoga philosophy. After studying different styles of yoga, Rebecca is in the process of Iyengar yoga certification. Her teachers are Joan White and Ellen Greenberg. She also studies with Kofi Busia, Carrie Owerko, and Patricia Walden. Rebecca has two sons and a background in the fine arts.
Jennifer Loher started practicing yoga in 1999 exploring styles that include Kripalu, Vinyasa, Anusara and Iyengar yoga. After years of trying different teachers and styles she has found what suits her best is a practice based on alignment and succinct instruction through the Iyengar tradition. She attributes the benefits of yoga to working through anxiety, but this is only one way it has changed her life significantly. She completed her first teacher training in 2009 and is inspired by her teachers who include Ellen Greenberg, Todd Norian, Stephen Cope, Amy Spencer and Indira Kate Kalmbach.
Blake Rubin began practicing yoga in 2005. Upon moving to Washington, DC in 2007 he enrolled at the Unity Woods Yoga Center, studying with John Schumacher, his primary teacher, and Liz Marks. During that time he attended weekly classes, completed John's year long pranayama course, and attended various advanced workshops. Blake's interests include long distance running and biking, both of which inform and are informed by his yoga practice. He has taken numerous workshops with senior Iyengar yoga teachers, including Patricia Walden, Manouso Manos, Kofi Busia, Rajiv and Swati Chanchani, and Julie Gudmesta. In 2011, Blake moved back to Philadelphia and continues to study with Ellen Greenberg, Joan White and John Schumacher.
Paula Cerrone began practicing yoga in 2001. In 2003, she started studying with Ellen Greenberg at Practice Yoga Studio, where she found her true passion and dedication to the various physical, meditative, and spiritual practices of yoga. Since then, she has studied various styles of yoga with renowned teachers, including Kofi Busia, and attained her 200 hour certification as a yoga teacher. In recent years, she has been studying with Joan White and is currently pursuing her Iyengar certification. Her goal as a teacher is to help her students develop a healthy and enjoyable practice through mindful awareness of bodily alignment, and a meditative study of the physical and internal Self.
Additionally, Paula is a licensed skin therapist and the mother of three small children with her husband of eleven years.
Adina Ghen has been practicing yoga since 1994 and taught in New York City from 1997 to 2009. She was certified as an Integral Yoga Teacher, and became a Certified Iyengar Teacher in the Fall of 2007 under the guidance of Mary Dunn, James Murphy, and her senior teacher Brooke Myers. She studied with Geeta and Prashant Iyengar in Pune, India at RIMYI in 2004 and 2006-07. She now lives in Center City Philadelphia and Joan White is her mentor and senior teacher.
Rachel Odoroff has practiced yoga since 2000, studying in New York, Denver, and Philadelphia. She received her initial yoga training from Bliss Yoga in Woodstock, NY and continues her studies with Ellen Greenberg at Practice Yoga Studio. Rachel also works in the Philadelphia School District as a middle school math teacher.
